TITLE: FUTURE HUMAN: The Changing Roles of Science and Technology in the “Global Village”
DESCRIPTION: The accelerating pace of science-based change is influencing politics, economics, life styles, and personal beliefs. Technologies that once required fifty years to mature can now evolve in less than ten. Scientists debate the role of science in public life, and are forced into unwanted jobs as advocates ("green" chemistry) and ethicists (stem cell and genetic therapies). What are the Top Ten scientific breakthroughs already poised to profoundly affect our lives? How will rapid globalization of scientific progress change human evolution?
